While the entire nation is celebrating the death sentence of convicts in the Delhi Gang Rape Case, it is quite a shocker that a film like Grand Masti is doing such spectacular business at the box office almost enough for trade analysts predict that the film will soon cross the prestigious 100 crore mark. I do not mean to go preachy on how we should all refrain from watching films with sex-based content, but when the same turns into sleaze, we do need to sit back and analyze why films like these even work. There is nothing wrong with film makers and scriptwriters coming up with films like these, because they surely have a sound idea of the market they are dealing with, of what works and what doesn’t but it’s sad that films like these work.

Kalki Koechlin
It is at such a point that a video recorded by a group of stand up comedians has gone viral on the internet. Directed by Ashwin Shetty, the video featuring VJ Juhi Pande and Kalki Koechlin – titled ‘It’s My Fault’ gathers notice to the popular trend of victim abusing that is prevalent in cases of sexual assault on women.
After the death of the gang rape victim in Delhi, last December – the nation’s attention shifted towards the rampant violence against women, often termed as sexual terrorism! Ironically, the video comes soon after a popular Godman, who was recently accused of sexually assaulting a minor, being defended by one of India’s most esteemed counsels, who claimed that the 16 year old victim is suffering from a mental disorder.
The video is incurring good views and appreciation from people from all walks of life simply because the issue has become exceedingly pertinent in the recent times. The makers are now considering translating the video into multiple languages so that its effect is far reaching and not merely elitist.
