While the world is familiar with Sherlock Holmes and his likes, the female detectives or even the idea of it is very sparse. Vidya Balan, with her upcoming film Bobby Jasoos, will probably take a shot at defying the moulds yet again.
In a recent interview with Koimoi, we asked the actress her point of reference to play impeccably the unusual character Bobby. Vidya affirmed, “There was no reference for my role in this film. There haven’t been too many female detectives but having said that, of course there were many references for detectives in general. I did not even try to look for too many references for this film either. Over the years, I have watched TV shows, read books, watched such movies. So I just delved into my storehouse of memories.”

Continuing about the wholesome script she had at hand, the actress said, “Script was complete by itself when it came to me. I had to do very little research for the film as such. Probably our writer Sanyukta Sheikh had to do most of the slogging. It was mostly my director who guided me through the film. Whatever I needed to know about the script or the character came from him. He had all the information I could have asked for. But yes, before the film went on floors, I had called a couple of detective agencies randomly. And cooked up a few cases to kind of get an idea how these agencies approach cases.”
Talking about her character, Vidya elucidated, “Bobby is a pataka. She is great fun, spunky, lively. She fights, laughs but never cries. This is a simple, very basic human interest story. What I found extremely refreshing in the film was how there was so much vigor in the story of a girl whose aspirations aren’t very lofty. All she wants is to become the best detective in her mauhalla. The simplicity of this story wooed me.”
Directed by Samar Sheikh, the film stars Vidya along with Ali Fazal and is gearing up to release on 4th July.
