This week’s big release, Gunday, a YRF production, has been promoted as a story of rise and times two coal mafias – Bikram and Bala. It is a story of their friendship and how they became the most celebrated and powerful names of Kolkata. However, set in the 1970s, the movie is not entirely based on their line of work but about their romantic angle as well. There is a cabaret dancer in the movie, Nandita (played by the sexy Priyanka Chopra), to spice up things. As the latest promos indicate, queen of hearts, Nandita is not an apple of their eyes but bringing layers to their bonding, eventually changing the story as well. She becomes a reason of rivalry between two friends.

But isn’t that was pretty obvious? Time and again, women have been shown as a bone of contention between friends who transformed to foes. This has formed the premise of many Bollywood movies where two jigri dosts have become ek dusre ke khoon ke pyaase just for one delicious ladki. So, we at Koimoi, decided to compile a list of movies that have followed the cliché.

Things were great between Shoaib and his confidant, Aslam. Shoaib, a crime lord, trusted Aslam and had raised him too. Even Aslam has high regard for Shoaib. But one girl, the rising starlet, Jasmine, makes things go ugly. Unknowingly, the girl gets these two men doing dhishoom-dhishoom in the end; a facorite cliché in our industry, you know!

Fomer Miss World, Priyanka has not just played one common love between two friends twice, she has done thrice in her career. In Dostana, his gay friends fall for her and she didn’t even have an inkling about this. A delightful romantic comedy, Dostana had elements of two friends trying to woo the same girl too. Only the twist in the story was that the lady thought that her friends were homosexual while they were straight and drooling at her!
Student Of The Year

A fun outing, Student Of The Year was a tale of high-school students competing to claim for the trophy of the student of the year, and girl in between two buddies. Not only does the film focus on these guys’ journey to éclat, a girl-conflict is interestingly showed in the movie as well. The movie marked the debut of Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan.
Ishqiya

Following the same cliché, Ishqiya too has the element of two cronies, who are criminals as well, fighting for one seductress, Krishna (played by Vidya Balan). Not only are they baffled by discovering each other’s love, they are offended on being driven by Krishna. An interesting tale of twist and turns, Ishqiya is a rustic roller coaster ride.
